In this study we further tried to understand and improve colonisation with EcoVag® Lactobacillus strains and cure rate of BV and R-VVC.
In the second trial, we evaluated if increasing the EcoVag® dose frequency would improve colonisation with L. rhamnosus DSM 14870 and L. gasseri DSM 14869 in BV patients and if the administered EcoVag® strains could colonise yeast infected patients, ie. when the microbiota has not been disturbed with antibiotics.
Finally, the addition of biological substances to the formulation improving the colonisation rate or the survival of the inocula, such as the strigolactones synthetic analogs in the AM fungi plant symbiosis (Xie et al. 2010), can also be soon transferred into biofertiliser manufacturing technologies.
Other favourable effects reported include reduced time to full enteral feeds, improved weight gain, colonisation rates and immune responses in the probiotic versus placebo group [ 38- 43].
Patho-biotechnology has been used with success to engineer probiotic strains with increased stress resistance, improved gastrointestinal persistence and colonisation and therapeutic efficacy.
The ecological engineering guidelines aimed at limiting the transit time of the soil and the reconstitution of its vertical layer organisation resulted in the improved recovery of the vegetation without colonisation by non-target species.

While over-expression of cellulosic polymer is individually costly (as demonstrated by the reduced exponential growth rate of WS relative to SM [ 11, 19]), its production provides a group benefit to WS because colonisation of the air-broth interface niche allows improved access to oxygen, a limiting resource [ 11].
Whether information present on admission will be useful to improve prediction of nosocomial colonisation and infection as well as target infection control measures and therapy needs to be determined.
