We found that the VirSorter curated data set improved affiliation by 32 and 40%, respectively, in the marine Pacific Ocean Viromes (POV) (Hurwitz and Sullivan, 2013) and Tara Oceans Viromes (TOV) (Brum et al., 2015) data sets, and more than doubled the number of affiliated genes in human gut viromes (Minot et al., 2012, Figure 3B).
