Brian McLaughlin, president of the labor council, said that the city's labor unions would lobby to protect these budget items because they were so important to working people.
"I have a strong record on issues important to working families, like the patient's bill of rights and safety and health at the workplace".
"Whether it's Hevesi, Green, Vallone, I believe they will do something to tackle it, because as Democrats, they care more about the issues that are important to working families," he said.
The governor, Mr. Gore said, could be expected to do the same in Washington, leaving no money for government programs that are particularly important to working people, like Social Security and Medicare.
