They were categorized as self-employed which included farmers, tailors, hawkers etc., service where a monthly salary is paid, and, shop owners and others engaged in the construction, garment, transport, and export-import sectors etc. were included as business.
In the high emission scenario, contributions of imported sector and facility 3 are decreasing within the range below 100 PJ, while electricity generated by facility 1 is increasing from approximate 500 to 650 PJ.
Productivity shock measures inter-industry and employment linkages and examines how export and import react which sectors are likely to lead to output and employment generation and whether the impacts will favor labor-intensive sectors (Ha and Swales 2012).
A majority of these import competing sectors experience low to moderate emissions intensity accompanied by high import penetration.
The end result of this would be that domestic import competing sectors lose competitive advantage, adding to carbon leakage.
This would lead to increase in reliance on domestic production, thereby encouraging the production of import substitute sectors.
Agriculture, forestry and fishing (AFF) stands out in Fig. 4 showing the highest emissions intensity among import competing sectors.
Within imports of manufactures, motor vehicles including those designed for the transport of persons, accounted for 4.4% of total sector imports followed by fertilizers which accounted for 4.2% of manufactures imports (Figure 5). Figure 5 Global COMESA imports by sectors (2011).
