The present paper describes the results of the successive surveys and will examine the impact the campaign could have on the compliance of medical teams for implementing the bundle and on the prevalence of VAP.
The costs of implementing the bundle fall into two groups.
These result in a lack of support for implementing the bundle.
– policy maker -" There are no sanctions for departments who are not actually implementing the bundle.
However many studies have shown a positive effect of implementing the bundle measures in endemic settings [ 11, 12, 15, 17, 18].
Implementing the bundle of care led to a decline in infection rate from 15% before the intervention to 11.4% after the introduction of bundle of care, a fall of 27%, which is significant (P < 0.001).
Next, CERs of each respective primary endpoint were computed as incremental costs of implementing the bundle to prevent 1 day of MV and to prevent 1 day of delirium.
The mean costs (per patient per ICU stay) of implementing the bundle components were significantly higher in the post-ABCDE cohort versus the pre-ABCDE cohort ($191 vs. $92, P < 0.0001), with an additional increase in total costs ($8,930 vs. $8,624, P = 0.0233).
However, this fails to consider the nontrivial costs of the monitoring and education activities required to implement the bundle, or that alternative strategies are available to prevent CR-BSI.
Table 2 summarises the resources associated with these activities based on descriptions provided across six publications produced from the Pronovost et. al. study [9], [31], [32], [33], [34], [35], but any measurement and valuation of the resources required to implement the bundle in an Australian context will be complex.
