In our view, a prospective assessment of geographic patterns of injury outcomes is important to (1) identify trends and patters in changing needs, (2) evaluate whether policy and practice changes implemented as a result of these types of analyses are actually having the intended effect, and (3) for identifying whether there are sub-populations that need specific support.
