To evaluate the sensitivity of our core model parameters and identify critical enablers of resilience, we varied parameters and model assumptions within a range thought to bound realism: relaxed compliance (60%); delayed strategy implementation thresholds (day after 30 or 100 individuals are diagnosed within the community); relaxed rescinding of strategies (3 cases in 7 days).
We also used this tool to display the observed S. haematobium and active trachoma prevalence and treatment strategy, as well as the need for intervention with the SAFE strategy, based on WHO-recommended implementation thresholds [ 33].
The coefficients in these regressions ranged from 0.0005 to 0.0036, compared to the regression coefficient of 0.0049 in the main analysis when using the true time period of implementation (threshold 50, Table 2).
Subsequently, if the number of newly diagnosed individuals rises above the implementation threshold, mitigation strategies are reapplied with a second mitigation cycle.
Thus, travel conditions for infected persons in given cities would be different in the two scenarios only during the time between the initial arrival of the virus and the crossing of the travel restriction implementation threshold.
Compliance of 90%, a strategy implementation threshold of 10 diagnosed individuals and a strategy rescinding threshold of 7 days with no newly diagnosed individuals was used for the core analysis as a possible best case, reflecting a situation of excellent surveillance and community participation.
Fair implementation of threshold-based performance measures will depend on determining whether small differences in A1C threshold attainment truly indicate differences in quality diabetes care after adjustment for case mix.
