As the field of tissue engineering progresses ever-further toward realizing clinical implementation of tissue-engineered constructs for wound regeneration, perhaps the most significant hurdle remains the establishment of non-destructive means for real-time in vitro assessment.
However, there are some problems that limit the implementation of tissue-engineered products to routine clinical practice that predetermines the development of alternative approaches.
The study results revealed higher contamination rate on bone allografts and recommend the implementation of good tissue banking practices during tissue procurement, processing, and storage in order to minimize the chances of contamination.
Soft tissue engineering helps avoid undesired complications, such as infection, graft rejection, etc. Suitable biomaterials are the solution for successful implementation of soft tissue engineering.
Its applications for both basic mechanistic studies and therapeutic purposes should facilitate the design and implementation of innovative tissue engineering strategies.
It should also foster the implementation of human tissue banking, and the development of bio-banks linked to high quality clinical data bases, for identification of clear phenotypes relevant to stratification of patients receiving standard or experimental therapies [7, 8].
