This is the first published study of a pilot ban in a defined geographic area before implementation of a national ban.

In addition, the presence of areas of reduced diversity (Southwestern sites) can be used as scientific evidence for the future implementation of a fishery ban for C. pica and for replenishment protocols in these areas [3], [5].
