But audits of country programmes, project impact appraisals, project designs, memorandums of understanding and evaluations are much less readily available than information such as strategy, annual reports and overall project costs.
The New South Wales Health and Equity Statement from 2004 called for the development of "a process for undertaking Rapid Health Impact Appraisals within NSW Health to identify the health impact of existing and new policies" [ 54].
These effects are mediated by a mechanism that involves impact appraisal, response appraisal, perceived agency and interpersonal factors.
It is tempting to speculate that applying the lens of impact appraisal and response appraisal to some of the findings of research on feedback could shed some light on these phenomena.

Future work should focus on improving data collection for impact assessment, encouraging third-party appraisal, and possibly reinforcing evaluations by changing funding requirements where relevant.
Policy appraisal and health impact assessment, methods, for example, similarly draw on all these disciplines, including in-depth quantitative and qualitative research, and 'tool-kit' – based approaches, though these have come in for criticism as they place too little emphasis on the soundness of the evidence upon which they draw [ 13].
By identifying the causal mechanisms at work in the appraisal process it may be possible to design experimental research studies to effectively investigate the impact of appraisal on doctors' performance.
