Factors studied included occupation, chemical exposure, radiation exposure, prior diseases, immunizations, chronic infections and markers for defects in immune regulation.
BCG immunization caused up-regulation of both the pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-12, IFN-γ and TNF-α) as well as anti-inflammatory cytokine (TGF-β).
