The volumetric MDCT acquisition at sufficient bladder distension is visualised with multiplanar image reformations at CT angiography window settings (width 600 900 level 150 300 Hounsfield Units, HU) and by maximum intensity projection (MIP) or 3D-VR techniques.
Although with limited contrast resolution compared with MRI, volumetric multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) acquisitions including image reformations along arbitrary planes allow visualisation of anorectal abnormalities in their cranio-caudal extent with relationship to key anatomical landmarks such as the sphincter complex [16, 17, 18].
At the core laboratory, volume-rendering images, curved multi-planar reformation (MPR) images, interactive oblique MPR images, thin maximum intensity projection (MIP) images and cross-sectional images were prepared using the images reconstructed at each study center.

To facilitate image analysis, multiplanar reformations in the coronal plane and sagittal plane (section thickness, 3 mm) were calculated using the standard software provided with the scanner.
