Briefly, the latter resulted in an enriched sample where cells were optically aligned along the upper panel of a glass chamber, maintained by strong magnets, allowing for automated fluorescence microscopy and cell images digitalization, a cell being defined as both nuclear DAPI and cell-surface staining.
Videotaping the image (and later digitalization of the images) can also be performed if needed, but high-quality digital videotape recording and appropriate labelling of the video strips are necessary.
A standard Zeiss Model 16 microscope was used to assess the histological preparations and photomicrographs were taken with a Zeiss Axiophot microscope with image capture and digitalization (AxioVision 4.3 with AxioCam HRc camera).
