The participants in the present study observed that CrossFit culture may impose unachievable or unrealistic performance and body ideal expectations upon men, speculating that these expectations could represent a body image burden for men.
For example, one participant spoke to the idea that although CrossFit may be empowering for women, providing recognition for what they could do athletically, the culture of the sport may place a body image burden on men: …I think it's given women…more recognition in athletics and what women are capable of…I also think it's made things for males much more challenging with their body image.
