The No RNC Poster Project issues ritual reminders that it does not support illegal posting, though artists have been known to slip posters into the frame reserved for advertising in subway stations and cars.
"This is illegal!" one poster declares.
That's not to say illegal fly postering is either acceptable or admirable.
A lawyer at Aberystwyth University – which I had recently joined as a lecturer – advised us that plastering public buildings with posters was illegal, so we decided to do that.
The posters warning illegal immigrants to "go home or face arrest" were bad enough, striking a bullying note more reminiscent of a British National Party rally than a responsible government campaign.
