Additionally, population size controls the global rate of IL-2 depletion by determining the number of consumers, and by dynamically regulating their IL-2 depletion capabilities: the persistent availability of antigen to smaller T cell populations delays pSTAT5-mediated upregulation of IL-2Rα, which postpones the initiation of IL-2 consumption.
Based on these observations, we hypothesized that decreased IL-2 levels may be a result of IL-2 consumption by NK cells.
