From the main theme "Women's experiences with the onset of symptoms" three sub-themes were identified: "Bodily sensations", "From bodily sensation to symptom", and "Health seeking and treatment start".
The following four inter-related dimensions emerged (Table 5): Perceived body sensations or the ability to note changes in body processes, to identify inner sensations (e.g. a tight muscle, fatigue, warmth, pain) and to discern subtle bodily cues indicating varying functional states of the body or its organs and the emotional/physiological state.
They did exercises such as mindful eating, in which they focus on sensations associated with eating very slowly, and body scanning, an exercise where they identified physical sensations in the individual parts of the body.
