IHC analysis identified islands of intense staining for the proliferation marker PCNA, surrounded by relatively quiescent areas in Pten deficient medulloblastomas.
In addition to the previously identified islands [ 9], at least two other putative GIs could be identified (Tables 2 and 3, Figure 2).
These regions overlapped the previously identified islands of facultative heterochromatin to a large extent [ 30], including mcp7, mei4, and ssm4 (Fig 4B).
Notably, however, several of the same studies also identified islands of the miRNA regulome that have been subject to recent positive selection [ Li et al., 2012a; Liang and Li 2009; Quach et al., 2009; Saunders et al., 2007].
Despite the great interest in such binary approaches, a formal analysis of their power, in terms of their ability of identifying islands of tractability, was missing in the literature.
In this case we identify islands of coverage inside the segment.
The mapping results were then used to identify "islands" of expression, which can be interpreted as potential exons.
Interestingly we reveal that CGI prediction does not accurately identify islands of non-methylated DNA, particularly in lower vertebrates.
In the present study, we end-sequenced and mapped clones from this library, identifying "islands" where clones were adjacent or overlapping.
It may identify islands with similar genome signature values, indicating a compositionally similar donor or (dispersion effects of) the same acquisition event.
