Among the remaining 26,565 transcripts, we identified house finch genes not yet found in birds by first calculating the median coding potential score (6.39) and the median size (2,604 bp) of the 7,202 transcripts with an identified ortholog and compared these values to the set of genes with no identified ortholog in any of the other four species.
