The identification of observation and perceptual experience persisted well into the 20th century—so much so that Carl Hempel could characterize the scientific enterprise as an attempt to predict and explain the deliverances of the senses (Hempel 1952, 653).
In addition to the formulation of the underlying multiscale framework, including the identification of observation scales and the development of appropriate upscaling schemes, shrinkage experiments on cement pastes were conducted and used for the validation of the developed multiscale model.

The pandect (i.e. the collection of all of the positive and negative patterns corresponding to a dataset) is an important component of LAD because it allows construction of diagnostic and prognostic systems, analysis of the importance and role of variables, and identification of new classes of observations, among other factors.
