CA has the largest concentration of Hmong Americans [ 29] and is one of the few states that collect detailed information on Asian ethnicity on the birth certificate, thereby enabling identification of births of Hmong women.
Data collection involved prospective identification of births and birth outcomes by 99 locally resident women (generally two per cluster), covering about 600 households each, who reported weekly to one of 12 interviewers.
Costs were classified in terms of: identification of births and deaths; eliminating deaths to women of reproductive age that were not maternal, late maternal or pregnancy related by interviewers; interviews, verbal autopsies; and data management (including database design, data entry by data entry clerk and data analysis by a number of project staff, and associated equipment).
A unique ten-digit Civil Personal Register number was assigned to all persons in the CRS which allowed for the identifications of birth date and gender (Schmidt et al., 2014).
Other preparedness issues such as early antenatal care (ANC) visits, identification of skilled birth attendants, birth plan and the identification of blood donors were not mentioned.
These messages frequently include content such as identification of a birth attendant and health facility, setting aside funds for delivery, and identification of transportation options in case of a maternal emergency [ 7, 8].
To aid community identification of low birth weight or preterm newborns, the card also shows a scale picture of a newborn foot showing cut-offs for very short (<7 cm) and short (7.0-7.9 7.0-7.9t, and not short (8.0 + cm).
For deliveries after 7 months gestation, there was high agreement for identification of live births (K = 0.83, 0.71 0.90) and still births (K = 0.83, 0.71 0.91) (Table 2).
Identification of preterm births and accurate estimates of gestational age for newborn infants is vital to guide care.
