It does not matter what you or I write next.
I suspect that whatever I write next will be significantly more story-driven.
The Luminaries tells of a male-dominated world, too, and Catton admits she's had "moments where I've felt like a bit of a traitor – maybe that's too strong a word – but I've felt uncomfortable with the fact that I've written a story that has two female characters, and 18 male characters, which is not a very good percentage … I think that that will be on my mind, whatever I write next".
I love writing; I love writing now, when I know I have a contract and a deadline and people eager to read what I write next.
