The most salient feature of the screen musical is that, though it has only one real song, the plangent reprised-to-death "If It Takes Forever (I will wait for you)", all the dialogue, including the most thudding banalities, is sung too.
He's a little more circumspect on his current album, "Heavier Things," (Aware/Columbia), but success leaves him just as insecure: "I will wait to find if this will last forever," he sang in "Clarity," which opened the concert.
"I should've kissed you longer/ I should've held you stronger / And I'll wait for forever for you," are some of the words to the tune.
"I should have kissed you longer / I should have held you stronger," he croons over a delicate guitar figure, "And I'll wait for forever for you to love me again".
"I never should've raised my voice or made you feel so small/ I never should've asked you to do anything at all/ I should've kissed you longer, I should've held you stronger/And I'll wait for forever for you to love me again".
But if you wait until that person has no redeeming value, you'll wait forever.
If you wait for inspiration, you'll wait forever.
Don't wait to be noticed because you'll wait forever.
