I always take materials, but never use them.

For example, use the mindset "I have to use this to pass the AP test," or "If I take in this material, I will do well on the tests and get an A".
I try never to take materials away and only add to the whole, as I feel everything has a use, and if I can find what it is in the work, then I have done my job well".
I take most of my material from real life (not necessarily mine), but real life rarely makes enough sense, so I have to use a lot of imagination to make it more believable.
