In a previous report, plasmid transfection of aortic ECs with DN calpain-I caused cell rounding [8]; but we did not observe cell rounding in dermal MVECs transduced by retrovirus with DN calpain-I, probably because the level of DN calpain-I expression achieved and consequently the extent of calpain inhibition achieved was more modest.
