A significant reduction in serum has been reported for paroxonase (PON-I), high density lipoproteins [ 56], and plasma superoxide dismutase [ 57] and an increase of total cholesterol, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein, lipid peroxidises [ 56], 25-hydroxycholesterol [ 58], heat shock protein 70b′ (HSP70b′) [ 59], and Vitamin E [ 57].
In the current study, we have found that increased pre-therapeutic serum levels of VEGF in 16 patients with osteosarcoma correlate with (i) high microvessel density of the primary tumour, (ii) relapse with pulmonary metastasis during the first year of treatment, and (iii) positive expression of tissue VEGF.
CM has: (i) very high density (1.17 g cm−3), (ii) high electrical conductivity (9.3 S cm−1), (iii) well-compacted and interconnected carbon spheres, (iv) homogeneous microporous structure and (v) apparent BET surface area of 957 m2g−1.
In the Dutch outbreak, several factors were considered to have contributed to the increase in Q fever cases, including: (i) the high density of farms in the regions where the bacterium is endemic, (ii) asymptomatic infection in the majority of infected animals, and (iii) more efficient diagnostic tests [ 2, 6, 7].
Changes in the lipoproteins are known to occur in infantile visceral leishmaniasis, particularly, deficiency of apolipoprotein A-I and high density lipoproteins [ 30].
A decrease in apolipoprotein A-I and high density lipoprotein therefore allows the uninhibited production of interleukin-1β and tumour necrosis factor-α during inflammation.
Interestingly, apoA-I and apoA-I-containing reconstituted high density lipoprotein particles protect hippocampal neuronal cultures from Aβ-induced oxidative stress and neurodegeneration.
Yet, following exposure to 15 minutes of stress, dendrites from stressed males had the "female" form (i.e., high density of spines), whereas dendrites from stressed females had the "male" form (i.e., low density of spines).

ZnO films annealed at T ⩽ 300 °C show the most promising surface features to be employed for DNA microarray preparation, i.e. high density of binding sites (hydroxyl groups), smooth and homogeneous surfaces, high optical transmittance in the visible spectral range suitable for detection using fluorescence, and easy handling during preparation procedures.
