A hypothesis is a tentative explanation for a phenomenon or a proposed solution to a problem, so it doesn't make sense to use "how" after it. A correct way to use "hypothesis" in a sentence could be: "The scientist proposed a hypothesis to explain the unexpected results of the experiment."
