At a Jerusalem press briefing earlier this year where the four reconstructed heads/faces stood, somewhat eerily, on a table in the corner of the room, Victoria Lywood, a Montreal-based forensic artist, explained how she had printed three-dimensional skulls from CT scans using a rapid prototype printer designed for facial reconstructions.
"Moving Walls," she said, gave her the opportunity "for the first time to think about which pictures go together, how she should print them and helped prepare me for bigger and more public shows that followed".
"I'd almost become a metal sculptor, and chose graphic design instead because of my love of pattern and symbol," Powell says, looking back on how she came to 3D printing.
She has the sort of informality that comes from having done this many times before, and talks freely without appearing to wonder or worry about how she might sound in print.
While some practices (like embalming) would be too costly for her to implement now, she learned how to create printed extras, like prayer cards, using a computer.
