In the anteroom were several visitors: Jan Massaryk of Czechoslovakia, former Mayor and Mrs. Holling of Buffalo, and Judge and Mrs. Sullivan of Buffalo.

"Have you heard of the artist James Turrell?" asks Chris McVoy, partner in Steven Holl Architects of New York, and inside me something dies.
"It glows like a Japanese lantern," Mr. Holl said of the material.
"It will have its own reality," Mr. Holl said of the hotel and the unusual complex he is designing.
Climbing to the top of one of Holl's towers, I looked out through a haze of smog at the acres of luxury-housing towers that surround his own, the kind of alienating subdivisions that are so often cited as a symptom of the city's unbridled, dehumanizing development.
The concept of social ecological system resilience is frequently framed in terms of a core heuristic model ("panarchy" (Gunderson and Holling 2002)) of system change.

It may not be one of Holl's finest, but the interior's curving concrete atrium and glass ceiling prove that the man knows how to work with light.
At the beginning of this year, it also hired Julie Hansen as its U.S. CEO, who will take over from Holl the lead of the company's U.S. operations.
