Special library collections include those on medical history at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, the Booker T. Washington Collection of black history material at Tuskegee University, and the Alabama and Southern history material at the Alabama Department of Archives and History in Montgomery, founded in 1901 as the first such department established in the United States.
The foundation also plans to release a larger, unified compendium in 2005 or 2006 -- probably more than 80 discs, which may include historical recordings and oral history material -- for libraries, educational institutions and specialist collectors.
"Another criticism is that whereas the history associated with western civilisation and Australia's development as a nation is often presented in a negative light, ignoring the positives, the opposite is the case when dealing with Indigenous history and culture," the report says in a section on the history material.
Topics include appropriation, high and low, art and history, materials and abstraction.
"But for me, it's a personal imperative to know more about the history, materials and processes of my medium".
