For forecasts at the national scale, MAPE values (i.e. 8%, 5% and 9% for the three respective crops) were considerably smaller than the corresponding historical coefficients of variation (i.e. 17%, 10%and17%7% for the three crops).
Rather, the AARM method reflects the features of SH coefficients to describe the relationship between current and historical SH coefficients, while C1PG is derived from the extrapolated SH coefficients considered by CODE to have the same periodic features of VTEC values.
The application of the model to real-world data is based on a multiple regression model quantifying the influence of macro-scale factors and on an automatic calibration process based on historical data where local coefficient scores for different areas are determined.
