The solution has a high variance reduction and high DC content.
Moreover, events with high variance reduction have CMT location uncertainty as small as 0.6 km.
The example in Fig. 5 corresponds to the M JMA5.4 aftershock (event No. 7), which is characterized by high variance reduction and high (significant) CLVD content.
A trial and error method that gave the best fit and higher variance reduction (VR) between the observed and calculated seismograms was used to adjust the final velocity model (Fig. 2).
We plot the estimated variance reduction for the source location estimated by the back-projection analysis for various mechanisms on the triangle diagram of the focal mechanism (Frohlich 1992) in Fig. 8a, which shows the top 100 results of the mechanism with high variance reduction from the 13,690 cases.
The MT solution with a 14 km depth, which also shows higher variance reduction (77%) and suggests an intra-slab earthquake, has discrepancies at not only the stations just above the hypocenter, but also those relatively far away (lower-right subfigure of Fig. 10).
In contrast, the opposite of the normal-fault and the normal-fault with strike-slip component, i.e., the compression type, does not show the high variance reduction for either of the hypocenters (Fig. 8a, b) and is unlikely to explain the observations from the synthetic waveforms.
Since similar focal spheres and variance reductions appeared at the north and northeast source grids, the detailed centroid location of this earthquake could be located at the region enclosed by source grids with high variance reductions.
However, stations in Central and Southern Asia show high variance reductions, whereas nearly all coastal stations and island stations sometimes show a small augmentation in the variance, possibly due to the small variances of the loading signal itself.
Models including different genes (FTO, as well as RYR1, LIPE and TGFB1 - for more information, see [ 27]) with their genotype classes in the initial model (starting model including all non genetic independent variables) were tested stepwise to find the highest proportion of variance reduction (VR).
