We hypothesised that higher mastery would be associated with reduced fear of falling in a community-dwelling British population.
A study of older Italians found that those with lower mastery (ie, the sense of control individuals feel over their own lives) had greater fear of falling than those with higher mastery.
In this case, individuals with high mastery goal orientation should be more likely to embrace opportunities to develop their skills and expand their knowledge than individuals with low mastery goal orientation (Gorges et al. 2013; Schunk et al. 2014).
