Among those helped: The Chowdhurys, a family of five who moved to the east side of Buffalo in 2010, settling in a neighborhood with one of the highest lead poisoning rates in the country.
Winter samples usually have the highest lead levels due to trapping of PM by inversions; summer levels are the lowest.
Also, the somewhat less than additive affinity gains achieved with TNF4-opt, which was derived from the highest lead starting affinity (TNF4, Kd = 23±3.5 µM for TNF-α), suggest that additivity in a 20-mer peptide starts to break down as the affinity approaches the low nanomolar range (Table S3 in File S1).
