These are higher-risk groups, so higher probability of use among them is optimal and suggests that translational medicine is being practiced.
Higher-risk groups would have higher costs associated with no screening.
For the PRESERVE score, the observed mortality rates for score classes 0 to 2, 3 to 4, 5 to 6 and ≥7 showed an increasing trend as in the original study; however, the rates were higher for the lower-risk groups and lower for the higher-risk groups in the present study population (Table 3).
The supplements may indeed still have benefits in higher-risk groups and for other medical conditions.
"The patients in the '80s and '90s were a higher-risk group than those in the 2000s," Bangalore explained.
"Improving the quality of care for this higher-risk group could also help to improve disparities and outcomes as well," Lee said.
But the score does put them in a higher-risk group of men who have more to gain from regular screening, he concluded.
Lastly, there is also interest and support for increased gun control regulations, such as raising the legal purchasing age, more thorough background checks, implementing waiting periods prior to purchase, and prohibiting the sale of firearms to higher-risk groups.
