Using the same set of 1996 images used by the city for NYCMap, the partnerships has fashioned a database, called Oasis, that deploys powerful mapping software to create a high-resolution template of the city, layered with reams of geographic data.
The method, combining the advantages of image segmentation and atlas-based approaches to generate a high-resolution template, is based on the widely available SPM8 software and provides robust and accurate linear attenuation coefficients (LACs) for head while requiring minimal user interaction.
The anatomical whole brain 3D T1-weighted images were corrected for intensity inhomogeneity (Sled et al., 1998) and a non-linear transformation towards the new high resolution ICBM template (Fonov et al., 2011) was calculated using a non-linear registration algorithm (Avants et al., 2008).
