The "Aravind Model" is recognized worldwide for providing high quality, state-ofthe-art eye care to millions of people regardless of their ability to pay.
As members of the EU, British students can take advantage of the high quality, state-subsidised higher education sector in the Netherlands, where 12 universities are in the top 200 of the Times Higher Education world rankings – the highest placed is Leiden University at number 64 – and the Dutch system is ranked third for "best value higher education system in the world".
The report offers one big suggestion: that "well-resourced survey organizations might have enough common interest in financing some high quality state-level polls so as to reduce the likelihood of another black eye for the profession".
The vision for these initiatives is the establishment of truly interdisciplinary teams of researchers, conducting high quality state-of-the-art innovative research, addressing national/international research priorities that will inform and impact on policy and practice.
There are few high-quality state colleges in metropolitan areas.
At the same time, there has been a paucity of these high-quality state surveys since the debate.
"France competes very well with its elite model: good human capital, and high-quality state institutions and infrastructure," says José Luis Escrivá, at BBVA, a Madrid-based bank.
This abject failure of the pensions private market, again accompanied by huge pension and insurance company profits, can only be reversed by a new high-value, high-quality state secondary pension scheme phased in over a 10-15 year period.
