"high proficient" is a grammatically correct phrase in written English.
It means having a high level of skill or proficiency in a particular area. You can use "high proficient" when describing someone's level of expertise or when comparing their skills to others. Example: "John is a high proficient pianist, able to play complex pieces with ease."
However, intensity was not equally beneficial for the acquisition of formulaic sequences at all proficiency levels: high proficient language learners did not seem to benefit from intensive instruction to the same extent as low proficient language learners.
To explain the benefits of multilingualism in the initial encoding of novel words, previous studies have implied greater flexibility and resistance to inhibit interference from L1 in early high proficient bilinguals17,36.
The obtained data through t-test from the translation test showed that both high and low proficient groups used knowledge of their first language, but the low proficient group used considerably more than the high proficient group.
Also, the results of the value-judgement test through Chi-square showed that the low proficient group chose literal meaning of the idioms significantly more than high proficient group.
Furthermore, the low proficient group made significantly more low-level revisions (i.e. those related to typology, form and language) than did the high proficient group.
Hence, the sample could be a better representative of the English language learners, from low- proficient learners to high proficient ones.
This suggests that the L1 was still highly dominant in the subjects; indeed, none of the subjects were early high-proficient multilinguals.
In high-proficient early bilinguals, poor behavioural perception of phonetic contrasts of their second language was associated with weak neural discrimination of both native and unfamiliar non-native contrasts but not of non-speech sounds, suggesting major individual differences specifically in the perceptual language as opposed to the general auditory capacity21.
In summary, the present study has shown that despite its brevity and the simple yes/no format, LexTALE provides a useful and valid measure of English vocabulary knowledge of medium- to high-proficient learners of English as a second language.
Such high-proficient, but "unbalanced" bilinguals are the population of interest in many experimental bilingual studies (e.g., Broersma, 2010; de Groot, Borgwaldt, Bos, & van den Eijnden, 2002; Lemhöfer et al., 2008; Ota, Hartsuiker, & Haywood, 2009).
