Kumquats (Fortunella spp ., close relatives to citrus species, are reported to have high levels of field resistance to citrus canker [ 1].
The line H29 24 was later released as the variety Hope [ 3]. High levels of field resistance against Pgt were observed in Hope and H44 24 (later re-named H44).
Table 3, summarizing the groupings based on NSmax using cluster analysis, shows that the cultivars expressing consistently high levels of field resistance against S. asiatica across the two seasons and sites were NERICA-2 -10, -5 and -17.
Following the cluster analysis, the cultivars expressing consistently high levels of field resistance against S. hermonthica were NERICA-1, -2, -3, -4, -5, -10, -12, -13 and -17, and IR49255-B-B-5-2, CG14 and Supa India (Table 3).
Selection in breeding programs for high levels of field resistance to stem rust derived from cv Hope combined Sr2 with various seedling resistance genes, which resulted in effective stem rust resistance present in many wheat cultivars [ 7- 10].
