In this special issue, we try to bring the new and existing molecular diagnostics techniques available for the diagnosis of heritable, cancerous, and infectious conditions.
Susceptibility and response to infectious disease is heritable.
Since that report was published, multiple groups have confirmed that susceptibility to and outcome from infectious disease is heritable [ 10- 12].
Individuals with aortitis due to identifiable systemic rheumatic diseases, infectious diseases, and heritable diseases (Marfan syndrome, bicuspid aortic valve, and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome) were excluded from the analyses.
Susceptibility and response to infectious disease is, in part, heritable.
Female mate choice may be adaptive when males exhibit heritable genetic variation at loci encoding resistance to infectious disease.
A specific host response to infectious agents is suspected to be highly heritable, but recognizing the genetic variants that may responsible for the disease susceptibility and pathogenicity has proven challenging [ 34].

However, heritable symbionts have been shown to combine inheritance with infectious transmission within, and sometimes between, species in a number of cases (Table 1).
They are caused by weakening of the aortic wall from hypertension, heritable disorders like Marfan syndrome, bicuspid valve disease, and inflammatory and infectious processes.
As sequencing became sufficiently high throughput to allow for whole genome analysis, the typing resolution immediately reached the limit for heritable strain differences and has accordingly gained momentum in the study of infectious disease [ 4- 7].
