Six quantities were calculated to characterize each hourly sea state: omnidirectional wave power, significant wave height, energy period, spectral width, direction of the maximum directionally resolved wave power and directionality coefficient.
To measure how far into the ice the waves still pack a punch, the researchers used wave height, energy, and frequency data gathered from five autonomous wave sensors positioned on Antarctic sea ice along a 250-kilometer line.

The identified differences of wave height and energy along the selected isobaths are insignificant.
