He looked back out onto the court: the Rockettes' manager, herself a former Rockette, was jumping and sliding on the hardwood in her heels, testing the traction ("It's not slippery, so that's good," she said) and making sure the shoes wouldn't leave a mark when the Rockettes perform at halftime.
The UK newborn screening programme centre, funded by the Department of Health does not advocate routine heel warming in their most recent guidelines [ 1, 17] and the literature does not support the need for heel warming before the heel prick test [ 12, 13].
The heel rise test, also commonly described as heel raise test or calf rise test, was first developed in the 1940s [ 4, 5] to assess the function of the calf muscle-tendon unit and is now widely used by clinicians and researchers across disciplines.
