Briefly, 200 Longworth traps (Penlon Ltd ,Oxfordshire, UK) were placed on a 1-hectare grid over 3 consecutive trap-nights every 4 weeks in 1997 and 1998 for a total of 26 sample periods.
In a small area of 994 hectares, a denser sample grid of 250 m × 250 m was employed to obtain additional data needed for further investigations in forest protection measures (Figure 1B).
