In summary, our study has shown that a subset of genes is common to both ear wound and cartilage healing, clustering the variation in gene expression levels classify groups of strains corresponding to healing potential, and the basis of gene expression differences appears to have some genetic component.

All of the Sox family members that were expressed, during fracture healing were isolated in the same clusters as the BMPs and Wnt families, while over 95% of the observed homeotic genes that showed altered expression during the time course of fracture healing were also in these clusters.
