Hazard avoidance (HA) is a key technology for a safe landing of future planetary landing missions.
These technologies address the challenges of hypersonic guidance, supersonic deceleration, precision landing, and surface hazard avoidance.
Three parameters, namely severity (S), hazard avoidance probability (P), and demand rate (W) are used instead of former four parameters.
It is expected that an autonomous safe landing and hazard avoidance system will bring much more scientific rewards to us.
Hazard avoidance components – hazard mapping, site selection and trajectory planning – are described and improvements on previous work are presented.
