As late as 1950, one-third of white female college graduates ages 55 to 59 had never married, compared with only 7 percent of their counterparts without college degrees.
In terms of marital status, the majority of never-tested MSM (80.0%) had never married compared with those who had tested within the past 12 months (62.2%) and more than 12 months ago (54.7%) (χ = 16.88, p < 0.001).
The pattern of risk behaviour was similar for divorced or widowed men compared to their counterparts who have never married.
Likelihood of U5M in children of mothers that were currently married and those that were formerly married increased by 38% and 104% compared to children of mothers that have never married.
Those who have never married are also at greater risk.
Among the males, 96.6% were never married compared to 75.9% among females (p < 0.001).
A slightly larger proportion of women who had ever married reported having exchange sex in the prior 12 months compared to women who had never married (Fig. 2).
