Miniaturization of cells – sometimes called dwarfing (Nyström, 2004) – as consequence of starvation has been reported, besides Staphylococcus sp. (see above), for Arthrobacter crystallopoietes (Ensign, 1970), Vibrio sp. (Amy et al., 1983), and other bacteria (Nyström, 2004).
To our knowledge, only four cases of primary lung cancer that embolized to the superior mesenteric artery have been reported besides the present case (Table 1).
