The paper advocated research which should be undertaken in close collaboration with land users, an integrated biophysical and socio-economic approach, an emphasis on adaptive research, and a harmonization of research efforts.
Regularly conducted structured training, communication about the review processes, public demonstration of leadership support for research ethics activities, budgetary allocation to ensure sustainability, and greater harmonization of research ethics processes with the broader institutional activities are some ways in which "institutionalization" of research ethics system can be deepened [ 26, 27].
Additionally, prioritization mechanisms are necessary to facilitate the current demand for increased harmonization of health research at a global level [ 4, 7- 10], particularly in combination with analyses of financial flows for health research [ 9, 11, 12] and burden of disease studies [ 13, 14].
(f) Is the harmonization of legal research assessment exercises at European level desirable in years to come?
On the need of harmonization of the research about the availability of LCA data for membranes and on the basis of the collected information, a first set of eco-design principles for membranes structures is proposed.
This is the only way to attain true international harmonization of environmental research and monitoring in Antarctica, enhance mutual confidence in the output of such activities, and sensibly exploit precious human and financial resources to the benefit of a better understanding and effective protection of the Antarctic environment.
For years GDM has been defined differently throughout the world a patchwork that stymies epidemiological analyses and harmonization of clinical research and care.
Such a regional entity would serve to provide a forum for collaboration, networking and information sharing among NECs, would encourage harmonization of health research ethics policies and practices and procedures in countries of the Region, and would facilitate joint reviews especially when countries receive similar research proposals from one research group.
More importantly if there is to be greater harmonization of global research activities, as called for by Health Ministers in Bamako in 2008, more work will need to be done in identifying such common approaches to allow for comparable data and benchmarks to manage, organize or evaluate the global research portfolio [ 6].
The multilevel systems approach that we took was similar to that adopted by ESSENCE (Enhancing Support for Strengthening the Effectiveness of National Capacity Efforts) on Health Research [ 37], an initiative between funding agencies to scale up coordination and harmonization of the research capacity investments.
The Integrated Analysis of Longitudinal Studies of Aging collaboration focuses on data harmonization and reproducibility of research from international longitudinal studies focused on aging and health-related change in cognition, health, and well-being [ 70].
