Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust said it had to "harmonise" terms for all workers in the same pay band.
In a statement, it said: "The NHS National Staff Council has informed NHS trusts that we must harmonise terms and conditions for all on-call and out-of-hours work so that all staff on the same pay band are paid the same amount for work of equal value.
In Wales, the legislation being proposed is the complete opposite – there, the government wants to harmonise term dates by getting councils to work together.
Ministers want to harmonise term times to make life easier for families who have to organise child care during school holidays.
The idea was to deliver fair pay for non-medical staff based on the principle of "equal pay for work of equal value", provide better links between pay and career progression, and harmonise terms and conditions of service such as annual leave, hours and sick pay, and work done in unsocial hours (in most cases, weekends, 8pm to 6am on weekdays, and bank holidays).
As such, this provided an opportunity to harmonise these terms by selecting one standard term either using the SNOMED CT preferred/synonym or one of the cleaned local variants.
It adds that the proposals are part of wider plans to "harmonise" NHS terms and conditions.
The transfer of undertakings (protection of employment), or Tupe regulations, are designed to protect the rights of employees on a transfer of a business or the outsourcing of services, and means it can be difficult for employers to harmonise the terms and conditions of the transferred workers with their new staff.
Current registry annual reports that include comparative evaluations, however, are not harmonised in terms of methods and reporting.
He added: "Taking this into account, my intention is to harmonise school term dates for all maintained schools in Wales, with variations occurring very occasionally and only where they can be fully justified".
