What is meant by the term "hardware profile" in Windows 98? A. A hardware profile tells your operating system which types of hardware devices you want to use with your computer.
A hardware profile may not matter much to the owner of a desktop computer who does not adjust the system that much.
For a laptop user who regularly carries the machine from the office to home to other places, each with their own printers and other hardware devices, assigning a hardware profile to each situation can save a lot of set-up time.
Furthermore, SMART is designed to be hardware independent, therefore developer can pick their own hardware profile, write modules that conforms to SMART interface, and make the hardware run on top of SMART.
